Zwijndrecht, The Netherlands - Heerema Hartlepool, part of Heerema Fabrication Group (HFG), has been awarded the engineering, procurement, construction and installation contract of the 2,750 tonnes York platform.
At Heerema Hartlepool – one of HFG’s three fabrication locations – the construction work of the 1,300 tonnes topsides and 1,450 tonnes jacket of the York platform will be started in April next.
The platform is destined for the York Field Development gasfield in the UK Continental Shelf.
The topsides will measure 20 metres in length, 15 metres in width and 16 metres in height. The jacket with a height of 69 metres and a footprint of 30 x 20 metres will be installed in a water depth of about 43 metres.
The transport and installation of Centrica’s York platform has been awarded to another HFG division, Heerema Marine Contractors.
The York platform is an unmanned facility with a tie back to Centrica’s Easington gas terminal via a 34 km, 16-inch pipeline.
The York Field Development will exploit gas reservoirs in the Southern North Sea of the UK Continental Shelf, about 35km north east of Easington.
The Hartlepool yard is currently carrying out fabrication work continues of another Centrica project, the 1,100 tonnes Ensign platform, , which is due to be ready for installation in June 2011.
This Seaharvester type of platform consists of a topsides of 600 tonnes and a 500 tonnes jacket, for which our engineering company HFG Engineering has executed the design work.
“The [York platform] is the third project awarded to HFG since the contract award by Centrica of the F3-FA self-installing platform early 2009,” noted Remco van Gilst, VP business development and sales of HFG.
“This new contract together with the ongoing construction work of the 1,100 tonnes Ensign platform will secure jobs until mid-2012,” he added.
