CO2 or Caesium-137?
24 Mar 2011
Spare a thought for our redoubtable green lobby groups, who have spent the last two decades warning of the dangers of carbon dioxide and global warming, to the point now where mere mention of the word ’coal’ would send all 650 MPs in the House of Commons scattering for cover.
For them, and their mainstream UK/EU political backers, the penny is now dropping that ’climate-friendly’ nuclear power – tacitly accepted by environmentalists as a necessary evil to support the notion that wind, wave and solar energy could soon meet all our energy needs – can also be harmful to the environment.
Recent events, though, might prompt the ’greens’ might now consider returning to their erstwhile, important role of drawing the world’s attention to real environmental dangers, such as escapes of Caesium-137 radiation, rather than continuing with ideologically-led campaigns to ban everything from plastic bags to hydrocarbon fuels.
