13 Apr 2011
London – Under one of the UK’s biggest ever industrial energy supply contracts, npower is to provide energy to 22 Tata Steel plants across the UK – equivalent to a supply of approximately 5 terawatt hours (TWh) of energy.
We need an energy supplier committed to managing our requirements in terms of continuity of supply, delivered costs and service,” said Dr Karl-Ulrich Köhler, MD and CEO of Tata Steel Europe.
The power supplier will also assist Tata Steel in its efforts to manage its own carbon emissions as well those of its customers.
Volker Beckers, CEO of RWE npower, said: “We will work closely with Tata Steel to help it manage its energy consumption as effectively as possible. We understand the current pressures facing companies of this size, particularly in light of the recent Government announcement regarding the implementation of the carbon floor price from 2013.”
