New plant helps South West Water tackle water quality issues

Bovey Cross, UK – South West Water has installed a packaged lamella DAF plant to deal with a significant raw water quality deterioration at its Bovey Cross Water Treatment Works (WTW) in Devon.
The poor raw water quality reduced the output of the works during a busy holiday period, requiring the need to provide expensive tankering as a precautionary measure.
In response, the company ordered a D25 packaged lamella DAF plant and associated equipment from Siltbuster Process Solutions.
The DAF reduced incoming turbidity and enabled the works to operate at full capacity of up to 1 megalitre per day, eliminating the need for tankering.
South West Water decided to purchase an identical unit in case of similar circumstances arising in future.
During the following summer season, high algae levels in the raw water supply had the potential to cause similar problems but because of the DAF unit’s excellent performance at removing the algae, this time filter capacity was not affected and the works continued to perform as normal.
