Yokogawa nets South Africa power plant contract

Johannesburg, South Africa – South African public power utility Eskom has awarded Yokogawa Electric Corp. a contract to supply control systems and instrumentation for the outside plant and water treatment plant at its Tutuka Power Station.
Located about 200km south-east of Johannesburg, Tutuka Power Station operates six 609 MW units and is one of the largest coal-fired power plants in South Africa. It began commercial operation in 1985.
Yokogwa’s contract is for a large-scale project to replace aging transmitters and other field instruments, as well as supplying control systems for the auxiliary facilities serving the generating units. Project completion is due by June 2013.
Yokogawa will supply its Centum VP integrated production control systems, the PRM integrated device management package for monitoring and diagnosis of plant equipment, Exaquantum plant information management systems, and DPharp pressure/differential-pressure transmitters.
Subsidiary Yokogawa South Africa will execute the project, including delivery, engineering,installation, commissioning and handing over to Eskom the fully functiona plant.
The deal is Yokogawa’s first control systems order with Eskom, which has previously purchased more than 3000 pressure/differential-pressure transmitters the utility.
