Rotary lobe pumps unplug Anglian Water STW

Market Harborough, UK – Anglian Water is employing a Börger pump to handle crude imported sludge at its Market Harborough sewage treatment works.
Supplied with a 5.5 kW motor, the Börger PL300 is fitted with long sealing line optimum rotors that increase longevity and volumetric efficiency.
The rotary lobe pump replaced an old progressive cavity pump and macerator that kept allowing very stringy amounts of rags through, causing the unit to block up.
“We had to unblock our old progressive cavity pump almost every week, but we’ve only had to attend to the Börger pump once since it was installed in June 2010,” said Graeme Blair, Anglian Water’s craft technician.
The PL300 also has the capability for a suction-lift application at Market Harborough of almost three metres. Via the new pump (operating at 1.5 bar), the sludge is transferred to a picket fence thickener.
Anglian Water has previously installed Börger rotary lobe pumps at its Flag Fen WWTW in Peterborough, and uses pumps from the same supplier to handle all sludge processing at its Caister-on-Sea sewage treatment works.
