Jacobs lands UK nuclear contract

London – NuGeneration Ltd (NuGen) has awarded Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. a contract to provide environmental consultancy and engineering support on its project to establish 3.6GWe of new nuclear power at the West Cumbria, UK site of “Moorside”.
Under the two-year framework deal, Jacobs will support NuGen’s own engineering unit – a consortium comprising Iberdrola Ingenieria y Construccion SAU, jointly with its UK subsidiary, and Tractebel Engineering from the GDF SUEZ Group.
NuGen – itself a consortium comprising IBERDROLA and GDF SUEZ – has acquired the option on land next to Sellafield from the UK’s Nuclear Decommissioning Authority.
Jacob’s scope includes environmental consultancy and engineering support to Nugen in the developing the new-build nuclear power plant project in West Cumbria.
The work encompasses areas of site investigation, site characterisation, grid connection, preliminary construction services and any other general engineering and consultancy services.
