Atlas Copco kit for Australia LNG field
17 Aug 2012
London – Atlas Copco has won an order for turbocompressors to be installed at an onshore LNG facility in Northern Territory, Australia. The project, operated by INPEX Corp. with partner Total SA will produce LNG using natural gas from the Ichthys Field.
The order, worth around $17 million, was issued by the JKC Australia LNG in the second quarter and consists of turboexpanders and air compressors. The machines are scheduled for delivery in 2013.
Gas from the Ichthys Field in the Browse Basin, about 200km offshore of Western Australia, will undergo preliminary offshore processing to remove water and extract condensate.
The gas will then be transported to onshore processing facilities in Darwin, Australia, via an 890km subsea pipeline. The project is expected to produce 8.4 million tonnes of LNG and 1.6 million tonnes of LPG per year.
The turboexpanders will be used in gas treatment, while the three-stage air compressors will produce instrument air for use at the onshore plant.
Responsible for engineering, procurement, and construction of the onshore facilities, the JKC Australia LNG JV consists of JGC Corp., KBR, and Chiyoda Corp.
