Cyber attack hits Saudi Aramco

Riyadh - Saudi Aramco has come under a cyber attack, which caused a sudden disruption to parts of of its electronic network, the company announced.
According to Saudi Aramco, the attack had no impact on the integrity of the IT network that manages its core business, or on any of the company’s production operations.
“The disruption was suspected to be the result of a virus that had infected personal workstations without affecting the primary components of the network,” said a 15 Aug statement.
The oil & gas major said it expected a swift return to normal operation of the network.
In a statement, Saudi Aramco said it had isolated all it’s electronic systems from outside access as an early precautionary measure.
Saudi Aramco’s operational and database systems are protected by a series of precautionary procedures and multiple redundant systems.
In April this year, Iran’s national oil company was the subject of a cyber attack backx, followed by nearly three days of impact assessment.
Iran subsequently blamed the Flame virus for causing data loss on computers in the country’s main oil export terminal and Oil Ministry
