Is automation making you fat?

Men’s waistlines in UK manufacturing industry are expanding more rapidly than people working in any other business sector, according to workwear supply company Alexandra.
The average chest size order received by Alexandra has increased by five inches over recent years, with the purchase of larger size boiler suits showing the greatest increase.
The trend has even prompted Alexandra to add side elastication into its products to meet the growing needs of all sorts of employees from factory-based manual workers to engineers.
The workwear supplier suggests that the expansions can be partly attributed to longer lunch breaks or more snacking on the job.
But might it also reflect how engineers and technicians are increasingly sitting in front of computer screens, instead of getting out and about on site?
