Emerson to automatate Vopak terminals worldwide
13 Sep 2012
London – Vopak has awarded Emerson Process Management, a three-year global framework agreement, as one of two vendors to provide process automation systems and services for its 83 storage and bulk liquid terminal facilities around the world.
Under the agreement, Emerson will design, configure, and implement digital automation systems for all new automation projects at Vopak terminals, as well as provide on-going support services for new and existing automation systems.
The Dutch-based group is targeting greater reliability of its liquid oil, gas, and chemical storage and terminal services.
Implementing the DeltaV digital automation system and integrating it with additional terminal logistic and safety systems will help Vopak optimise operations, Emerso said. This, it claims, will include reducing field work and paperwork, and improve terminal effectiveness and customer satisfaction.
The new process control systems will help it reduce project lead time, improve strategic planning and project execution, and operate terminals more safely and efficiently, Emerson claims.
Vopak is also to employ the same vendor’s Syncade Logistics software at its fuel distribution terminal at Amsterdam Westpoort.
Vopak, the world’s largest independent tank storage provider, is currently experiencing high demand in its markets due to increasing global energy usage and geographic imbalances between production and consumption.
The Dutch group is also part of a JV – with Greenergy and Shell UK Ltd – that is transforming the former Petroplus Coryton refinery site in Essex, UK, into a fuel storage facility.
