London - AMEC has been awarded a five-year contract by the UK’s National Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) for project management support to the refurbishment of NNL’s Active Handling Facility.
The programme of multi-discipline projects will help to ensure the facility is refurbished and remains fit for the delivery of its commercial operations for a further 20 years.
AMEC will provide a team of project and engineering management professionals to oversee the safe delivery of a suite of projects to cost and schedule.
Clive White, vice president of AMEC’s nuclear business, said: “This important contract builds on our experience of providing support to nuclear facilities throughout the UK and overseas. We are looking forward to working in partnership with NNL to deliver a first class service to our customer.”
The Active Handling Facility is central the programme of experimental work we deliver to a range of key customers, according to Keith Johnson, NNL’s head of facilities.
“The work supports both continued safe operation of the UK’s existing nuclear reactors, as well as the effective management of the UK’s waste and decommissioning programme,” said Johnson.
“We need to be confident that we’ll have reliable access to the facility for many years to come, and the refurbishment programme is a vital step in providing that confidence,” he concluded.
