Mono protects China sewage pumps

Manchester, UK - NOV Mono has supplied pump-protection units for three major sewage pumping stations in the Fujian Province city of Fuzhou, China.
The Discam units, which combine the company’s grinder and screen technology, are designed to create an effective, low-maintenance alternative to conventional pump protection systems.
The packaged units were used in the Lianban wastewater treatment plant in Fuzhou city, Fujian province. The project is driven by Suzhou Dayu Water Treatment Equipment Co., which already has Mono progressing cavity pumps in use at these facilities.
The Discams have been installed at the inlets to the three pumping stations, where they now screen and grind solids in order to protect the large submersible pumps which are used downstream.
“By screening and macerating solids in a single operation they can create major benefits in wastewater treatment processes,” said Mono business manager Ian Hallows. “Operating efficiency is increased, while the cost of cleaning plus onward handling and disposal are significantly reduced.
The units feature rotating shafts fitted with intermeshing discs, which gently convey solids and debris across the face of the screen to the cutter stacks. These are fitted with interleaving cutters and spacers that create a ‘positive displacement’ action to grind the captured solids.
Once the solids have been macerated to a small particle size they are retained in the main flow for further processing or subsequent removal.
