GE Oil & Gas to create 200 jobs in Bristol

Aberdeen, UK — GE’s Oil & Gas subsea systems business is to establish a new centre in Bristol under plans to increase its presence in the UK. The facility, at the city’s Aztec West Business Park, will create 200 new jobs in 2013.
GE Oil & Gas currently employs 550 people in Bristol, where it has operated since 1980. Its subsea systems HQ in Aberdeen employs more than 800 people.
The expansion, said GE, is in response to robust growth in the organisation’s subsea business, and has created opportunities for a range of engineering, project management and commercial professionals.
GE Oil & Gas has been expanding its existing facilities in the UK, including a £620,000 modernisation of the ‘master control station’ workshop and subsea electronics module (SEM) at its Nailsea facility.
Earlier this year, GE also announced a £9-million investment in its manufacturing plant in Montrose with the creation of 40 new jobs.
Increasing demand for our products and services requires a second subsea hub in Bristol, according to Rod Christie, vice president for Subsea Systems at GE Oil & Gas.
“The area has a strong pool of high integrity industries, such as aerospace, defense, nuclear and automotive that we can tap into, allowing us to realise our growth goals more readily,” said Christie.
“Establishing a stronger presence in Bristol will enable us to bring new and much needed skilled staff into our global organisation supporting the capabilities of our existing subsea hub in Aberdeen,” he added
