Film factory in £20m upgrade
30 Aug 2013
A producer of plastic film for the packaging market has announced a £20 million upgrade of its Cumbria manufacturing facility.
Innovia Films, a division of Innovia Group, this week announced the investment package for the installation of additional Biaxially Oriented Polypropylene (BOPP) film capacity and a gas turbine at its Wigton site.
The additional BOPP capacity will assist the firm in meeting the increasing worldwide demand for its speciality grades of BOPP film. The investment is expected to increase Innovia Films’ global output by 10%, as well as supporting research and development.
Work will commence immediately and it is planned that the new capacity will be fully commissioned in 2015.
The decision to invest in a gas turbine was made a few months ago and preparation work on the Wigton site is already well in hand. Innovia claims the new, more efficient turbine will reduce the carbon footprint of all products produced at the Wigton site by 20%.
