Nuclear talent-sharing scheme launched
23 Oct 2013
The Engineering Construction Industry Training Board (ECITB) and its partners have launched a scheme to simplify the redeployment of personnel working on nuclear decommissioning sites.
ECITB, in collaboration with the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA), Magnox and Winchester Consulting have developed the Managed Transfer Scheme (MTS) for those workers at risk of redundancy.
To maximise redeployment opportunities it is essential to form excellent relationships with partner organisations

Forming part of Talent Retention Solutions (TRS) for Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering (AME) Careers, MTS allows the details of employees to be shared between selected companies working on nuclear decommissioning facilities.
Companies looking to recruit are then able to easily access a pool of talented and experienced candidates that might otherwise be out of work.
ECITB director of regional operations Andy Brown said: “The ECITB welcomes the opportunity to work with the nuclear industry to deliver a solution to the retention of highly skilled workers for the nuclear sector and broader engineering industry.
“Through the implementation of this MTS the ECITB is confident that TRS will provide support for both the existing nuclear workforce and the HR teams of the nuclear sector.”
Magnox currently operates ten sites on behalf of the NDA, one of which is still operating and the others currently defueling or undertaking decommissioning activities.
Magnox transition manager Beccy Pleasant said: “To maximise redeployment opportunities it is essential to form excellent relationships with partner organisations, and to have systems which enable effective sharing of data and CVs. “
The redeployment system was officially launched yesterday after being demonstrated to NDA estate representatives.
