Biogas to grid plant build starts

Work has begun on Scotland’s first gas to grid anaerobic digestion (AD) project after its financing was completed.
In conjunction with gas supply company Scotia Gas Networks (SGN), renewables investor Iona Capital has invested in Keithick Biogas in Perthshire, which is set to supply more than 3 million m3 of biomethane into the local gas grid each year.

Biogas firm Biogas Power will manage the plant and SGN will oversee the connection of the plant to the local gas grid.
The AD plant is being supplied by biogas plant manufacturer MT-Energie, and will process over 36,000 tonnes per year of whole crop rye, maize, sugar beet off-cuts, raw silage and chicken litter from local farms.
“This is the first gas to grid project we have completed and we are delighted to have been able to partner with both Scotia Gas Networks and MT-Energie,” said Iona Capital director Nick Ross.
