Acquisition promises product development “quantum leap”

Atlas Copco promises long term approach to R&D after taking over vacuum pump specialist Edwards.
In January Swedish firm Atlas Copco announced that it had completed its $1.6 billion (£968 million) acquisition of vacuum pump manufacturer Edwards.
Following its acquisition, Edwards has remained located at its Crawley, West Sussex offices and is being incorporated into Atlas Copco’s newly created Vacuum Solutions division.
More details on how exactly this new Vacuum Solutions business will be structured have since been released.
Following the takeover, Edwards has been divided into four business units, three of which will remain branded as Edwards.
These are: semiconductors and emerging technology; general vacuum, which includes solutions for the process industries; pumps for the R&D and scientific community; pump service.
