Food and drink companies are shaking up the sensor market.
For every box of breakfast cereal or bag of pasta that rolls off the production line, a multitude of processes has taken place beyond the sight of human eyes.
Guiding many of these are sensors, with one of their key responsibilities to help prevent food contamination and spoilage.
“Governments across the globe have strict laws that mandate the use of sensors and other electronic devices that sense the risk involved in food contamination,” says V Sankaranarayanan, measurement & instrumentation analyst at Frost & Sullivan.
“The presence of standards and regulatory compliance requirements is one of the major drivers for the implementation of sensor systems.”
For this reason, the food and beverage industry is set to become a significant source of demand for sensors, he says.
