Water plant upgrade
14 Apr 2014
A Swiss water treatment plant has improved its process design with P&ID software.
For over 30 years the waste water treatment plant at Meiringen, Switzerland has been treating 1.1 million cubic metres of waste water annually.
To keep up with the latest technological developments, intelligent P&ID software is vital.
Sustainable, Efficient and Future-Proof
Diligent maintenance and up-to-date technology help to future-proof the plant’s operation. Sustainable energy use and energy efficiency are also key operating principles at ARA Meiringen, which produces electricity from naturally occurring sewage gases.
Constant Improvement and Process Optimisation
ARA Meiringen staff perform their own prototyping, design and construction. This involves changing existing piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and designing and manufacturing individual components.
The ARA Meiringen waste water treatment facility in Switzerland recently chose CAD Schroer’s P&ID software to quickly and easily create and edit intelligent process schematics.
“The comprehensive P&ID functionality, intelligent symbol libraries and the high degree of flexibility provided by MEDUSA4 P&ID played an important role in our decision to acquire the software, but we particularly rate the support provided by CAD Schroer,” said Markus Zumbrunn, in charge of plant operations at the Meiringen facility.
Process Design and Documentation
Accurate P&IDs are essential for seamless plant documentation. Zumbrunn first digitised and then edited existing schematics with MEDUSA4 P&ID to bring them up-to-date.
Any plant process improvements can now be planned in MEDUSA4 P&ID. Users can efficiently edit designs in line with new requirements and try different versions of a schematic for plant optimisation.
ARA Meiringen now benefits from an extensive P&ID symbol library, as well as dynamic tools for placing and editing symbols and creating piping systems. Automatic consistency checking and parts list generation provide quality assurance and accurate data for downstream processes.
