Aveva introduces virtual plant

Industrial gaming software targets operator safety and efficiency.
AVEVA has unveiled a new industrial gaming software system designed to transform plant operator training by enabling users to create immersive, multi-person, interactive environments.
The Activity Visualisation Platform (AVP) can increase capability and effectiveness in a wide range of productivity and safety use cases, said Aveva.

These include facility familiarisation, training and rehearsal of complex activities, emergency procedure evaluation and competency checks.
Realistic virtual worlds can be created using Aveva 3D design software, or third-party design and engineering data, and users can navigate and interact with the virtual environment either directly or via controllable avatars.
“Open doors, climb ladders, jump on and over objects, walk, run, bump into objects, knock them over; in fact almost any action that would realistically be required, or that could happen in the real world,” Aveva said.
Approximate simulation of certain physical systems, such as rigid body, soft body, and fluid dynamics, also allow users to experience the reality of a hazardous or difficult to reach environment.
“We are excited to demonstrate how AVEVA AVP offers a zero-risk, low-cost route to maximum operator effectiveness,” said William Muldoon, executive vice president of Aveva.
