Power management company Eaton has launched a new remote operating terminal to help plant managers reduce operation costs and increase plant safety.
The new MTL GECMA RT has a modular design, and was designed for use in hazardous EX zone areas in chemical, pharmaceutical, refinery and oil and gas industries.

It consists of five electronic modules; the display unit, power supply, communications modules, keyboard and mouse. The terminal’s modularity means individual parts can be replaced simply on site, increasing plant availability, Eaton said.
Each of the modules is individually approved to global hazardous certification for Zone 1 environments, offering safe handling on site and high reliability.
Safety functions include an intrinsically safe cable for secure data transmission. And users can specify an Ethernet or fibre optic cable between the control room and remote terminal, with no need for additional external cable protection, offering a saving of about 50% of wiring costs.
The terminal also features a visual alarm to warn users in the event of a process failure.
The operating terminals are designed to enhance visualization within plant processes using displays ranging from 19 to 24 inches, with full HD versions offered in 22 and 24 inches.
“Plant managers are under increased pressure to reduce costs, optimise productivity and increase plant safety and our new MTL GECMA remote terminals have been designed to meet these specifications and fit process needs,” said Axel Tischendorf, MTL GECMA product line manager, Eaton’s Crouse-Hinds division.
“The driving force of our investment is based on the knowledge and understanding of our customers’ requirements and the new generation of terminals is built on over 15 years’ experience in the industrial market.”
Displays are of the highest industrial quality and to ensure the best readability, the terminal incorporates optical bonding and LED-backlit technology resulting in a high-resolution image in a low power display, said Eaton. It also supports WLAN and Bluetooth.
