Yokogawa wins energy from waste deal
9 Oct 2014
Yokogawa yesterday confirmed it had been awarded a contract to supply control and safety systems for an energy from waste facility in Cornwall.
The Japanese firm’s French subsidiary was awarded the contract by Vinci Environment UK to supply the systems for the £141 million Cornwall Energy Recovery Centre, which it is building for waste management company Sita.
The plant, located in St. Dennis, is being built as part of Sita’s 30-year £1.1 billion Private Finance Initiative contract with Cornwall Council.
It will be capable of handling 240,000 tonnes of residual waste per year, with an electricity generating capacity of 16MW. It is scheduled to become operational in 2016.
For the control of the boilers and all auxiliary facilities at this plant, Yokogawa France will supply its Centum VP integrated production control system and the ProSafe-RS safety instrumented system.
In addition to being responsible for the engineering of the facility’s automation systems, Yokogawa France will support both the installation and commissioning of these systems, working closely with engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor Vinci.
The Cornwall project is Yokogawa’s fourth control system order for a waste-to-energy facility in the U.K.
