GexCon buys into 3D market
1 Apr 2015
GexCon, a supplier of dispersion, explosion and fire modelling software, has announced the acquisition of Stormfjord.
The move will see GexCon, known for its FLACS safety and risk management software, take on the 3D industrial visualisation and simulation products and services of Stormfjord.
Stormfjord was founded in 2007 and worked to transform complex industrial data into accessible, user-friendly 3D software solutions for use in simulation, planning, training, overview, control and monitoring applications.
The firm has enjoyed particular success within the oil and gas sector, said GexCon, where its low user barrier ‘gaming style’ products have driven growth.
Projects of note include the early phases of Statoil’s Aasta Hansteen and Lundin’s Edvard Grieg platforms in the North Sea.
“GexCon is investing heavily in the development of FLACS 3D Risk Management (3DRM),” said Erik Aadland, GexCon’s International Sales and Business Director.
“We strongly believe that Stormfjord’s expertise in advanced 3D solutions will accelerate the development of what we believe is the future of risk tools. Stormfjord chief executive Magnus Reigstad said: “For our part it gives us the resources to expand internationally, while our customers benefit from the support, stability and long-term partnership we receive from a Christian Michelsen Research (CMR) owned business.”
Stormfjord will continue to operate as a separate brand within the GexCon Software business.
