Food engineers taste future

Industry event designed to inspire the next intake of food engineering graduates provides advice, tips and support, says ambassador.
The ’Food Engineers of the Future’ event which took part in London this week saw representatives from the likes of Coca-Cola, Nestlé and PepsiCo UK give young people considering an engineering career in food and drink first-hand insight into sector jobs.
Site engineering manager at PepsiCo UK Ian Rigby said: “The Food Engineers of the Future event is a great opportunity to bring together young people with a passion for food and share an insight into what our fantastic sector has to offer.

“The day also provided a glimpse of what students can expect to experience from the MEng Food Engineering degree at Sheffield Hallam.”
While at the event, the incoming group of food degree graduates, as well as those interested in the food and beverage sector, had the opportunity to speak with first-year student ambassadors already studying on the course.
First year MEng Food Engineering student Lucy Smith said: “I loved being involved in last year’s event, and it’s great to take part again, this time able to share my first-hand experience of MEng Food Engineering course with others.”
Smith said the event is a great way for those on the course those interested in joining next to find out more about the career opportunities on offer in the industry.
“I really appreciated the chance to network with industry mentors and develop the relationships I’ve gained from the course work placements,” Smith said.
“The support, tips and advice they’ve given me is invaluable.”
As well as information and advice from industry engineers and ambassadors, attendees were offered the chance to experience a ‘day in the life’ of a food engineer via a series of engaging practical challenges.
