Employer-led skills body Semta has launched the STEM Exchange in an effort to bring further education and industry closer together.
The STEM Exchange is designed so that industry can more effectively engage with teachers and tutors to ensure science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) training for apprenticeships, higher apprenticeships and further education is closely aligned to business needs.
We are giving industry the chance to open their doors and throw light on what skills the nation really needs

Through the exchange, which has been commissioned and funded by the Education and Training Foundation, industry partners will open their doors to post-16 educators to offer any number of development opportunities which will enable them understand the current and future needs of the sector, Semta said.
Semta chief operating officer Al Parkes said: “We are giving industry the chance to open their doors and throw light on what skills the nation really needs to go about its business.
“The exchange of knowledge could be anything from a walk on the shop floor or introduction to your business to bite-sized work shadowing, advice over the phone or the opportunity to attend an internal training session.”
So far, more than 200 businesses have registered to participate in the programme, with many more expected to follow suit, Semta said.
