Keadby power station to reopen

Energy provider SSE has announced it will bring its 735MW gas-fired power station at Keadby, North Lincolnshire back online.
The plant, which was mothballed in 2013 due to “adverse market conditions”, will return to service this November, and will provide an ”important contribution” to the UK’s energy supply this winter, SSE said.
SSE managing director generation Paul Smith said: “Today’s news means government and the National Grid have more capacity with which to power people’s homes this winter.”

To bring Keadby back online, SSE applied to National Grid for Transmission Entry Capacity (TEC).
National Grid’s TEC register lists businesses with generators that are directly connected to the National Electricity Transmission System (NETS) or have rights to export to it.
According to the utility, this includes “generators with a Bilateral Connection Agreement (BCA) or a Bilateral Embedded Generation Agreement (BEGA)”.
“The station has undergone extensive upgrades meaning it can operate with improved flexibility in the market,” Smith said.
Keadby power station is expected to have full commercial availability by mid-December after plans to return it to service were revealed earlier this year.
