Honeywell has bought Sigma-Aldrich’s research chemicals business in a bid to expand its portfolio of products for the medical and laboratory sectors.
The €105 million (£77 million) transaction includes the purchase of three global brands, Fluka, Hydranal and Chromasolv.
The acquired business will be integrated into Honeywell Fine Chemicals, part of the Honeywell Performance Materials and Technologies (PMT) business group.
“The acquisition will enable Honeywell to offer a broader line of inorganic chemicals and solvents

Honeywell’s chemical products are sold under the Burdick & Jackson and Riedel-de Haen brands, and are used in a range of laboratory, consumer and industrial applications.
Sigma-Aldrich, based in Germany, develops and manufactures high-purity chemicals and materials used for drug research, medical diagnostic testing and other laboratory applications.
The three brands acquired by Honeywell are used in a range of applications including drug synthesis, food, environmental, chemical and forensic testing.
The deal, which is subject to regulatory approval, will build on the company’s strong portfolio of brands that include Burdick & Jackson high-purity solvents and reagents, said Darius Adamczyk, president of Honeywell Performance Materials and Technologies.
“The acquisition will enable Honeywell to offer a broader line of inorganic chemicals and solvents for demanding applications ranging from pharmaceutical drug discovery to medical diagnostic testing,” he said.
In September 2014, pharmaceutical and chemicals firm Merck bought Sigma-Aldrich for about $17 billion (£10.1bn).
