Atlas Copco strikes double deal
17 Jan 2016
Atlas Copco has acquired Oerlikon Leybold Vacuum and Innovative Vacuum Solutions as part of two separate deals.
US firm Innovative Vacuum Solutions specialises in the repair and maintenance of industrial and high vacuum pumps, and will become part of Edwards Vacuum, within the Vacuum Solutions division in Atlas Copco’s Compressor Technique business area.
Nico Delvaux, president of Atlas Copco’s Compressor Technique business area, said the acquisition fits well into the company’s strategy of increasing its presence in the US vacuum market.
Meanwhile, Oerlikon Leybold Vacuum, a segment of the Oerlikon company, which is headquartered in Germany, provides vacuum solutions to create clean, particle-free environments for applications including automotive, metallurgy, microchip coating and the manufacturing of analytical instruments.
“Leyhold will strengthen our technology platform for vacuum solutions,” said Delvaux.
These acquisitions follow Atlas Copco’s purchase of Edwards Group in 2014 for $1.6 billion (£1.1bn).
The deal was the Atlas Copco’s first major step into the vacuum solutions business, the company said.
