Aldi suspends biscuit supply over contamination fears
31 Mar 2016
Aldi has suspended all orders from the UK supplier of a range of its biscuits amid concerns over “pest activity” in the premises.
Its supplier, Baketime, is a Teesside-based manufacturer of both savoury and sweet biscuits and snacks.
After identifying some pest activity in January and again in March, Baketime said it had undertaken measures “to manage the situation and eradicate it as quickly as possible”.
There has been no evidence of contamination to any of the products manufactured at the site and we would like to reassure customers that, following product testing, there is no evidence that customers will become ill if they consume these products

The production had since been declared “cleared of pest activity” and it had recommenced manufacturing, Baketime said.
“We continue to work closely with our local Environmental Health Officer and pest control contractor to ensure that the issue has been properly eradicated and hygienic standards on site are upheld,” it added.
Although there had been no evidence of any contamination to any of its products, Baketime said it had recalled certain batch codes "in the interest of health and safety and on a purely precautionary basis”.
The recalled products were manufactured between January 18th and March 16th this year, and included both savoury and sweet biscuits and muffins.
“The company apologises for any inconvenience this has caused,” Baketime said.
Aldi said that following the identification of the pest activity, it had “immediately suspended all orders with this supplier”.
It is offering a full refund to customers returning products.
“There has been no evidence of contamination to any of the products manufactured at the site and we would like to reassure customers that, following product testing, there is no evidence that customers will become ill if they consume these products,” the retailer said.
