Kaspersky ramps up control systems security

Antivirus software provider Kaspersky Lab has developed an ‘all-in-one’ cyber security package for industrial facilities.
The Kaspersky Industrial CyberSecurity solution – which is designed to protect SCADA servers, engineering workstations and programmable logic controllers (PLCs) – is a combination of the company's “technologies, services and intelligence”, Kaspersky Lab said.

It can be used to help process plant operators manage cyber-security risks and protect the continuity and integrity of industrial control systems (ICS), Kaspersky Lab added.
“Today, the cybersecurity of industrial systems and critical infrastructures is of vital importance,” said Eugene Kaspersky, chief executive officer at Kaspersky Lab.
“An increasing number of such systems are using devices and channels that interact with the outside world. Sometimes they use equipment that was never intended for external access, not to mention software that was created decades ago and has not been upgraded since.”
According to Kaspersky, external access via legacy systems is a “serious issue” because “the continuity of the production process is at stake”. He also said it could put the environment and human lives at risk.
“Our solution is capable of ensuring the cybersecurity of the technology cycle at all levels of the automated process control,” Kaspersky said.
“We are also actively co-operating with manufacturers of automation systems in order to develop equipment that takes new cybersecurity standards and requirements into consideration,” he added.
