Professional services company PwC has set up a ‘global centre of excellence’ for drone use in industry.
The centre – based in Poland – is a new division of PwC. It has been established to help clients solve business challenges through the use of drones and data analytics.
PwC said it is in discussion with a wide range of industries about how they can use drones to improve their business processes.
Drones are making the transition from novelty item to indispensable business tool

“Drone-powered solutions are best suited to sectors that require both mobility and a high quality of data. Specifically, businesses that manage assets dispersed over large areas have a long history of issues that new drone powered solutions can address,” PwC said.
According to the Financial Times, drones can be sent to inspect remote locations such as oil and gas platforms, and can provide a clearer picture of potential defects. This is a cheaper, more effective alternative to humans, the FT said.
Michal Mazur, head of Drone Powered Solutions at PwC for Central and Eastern Europe, said: “Drones are making the transition from novelty item to indispensable business tool.”
PwC said the emerging global market for business services using drones is worth more than $127 billion (£87.8bn).
“The implementation of business projects now involves a strong technology component,” said Piotr Romanowski, business advisory leader at PwC.
“That is why we are investing in becoming more technology enabled, through acquisitions of specialised technology companies such as Outbox and through the development of our own technology services, such as our Drone Powered Solutions team.”
