Mars Food has announced plans to invest £23 million into food processing facilities at its King's Lynn site.
The investment will help to fund new manufacturing capabilities for the Uncle Ben’s brand of Ready to Heat rice in its Norfolk plant, the company said.
This will create 28 new full time jobs at the site which currently employs nearly 300 people.
This significant investment by Mars is a real vote of confidence in Britain as a place to do business, creating jobs locally and helping drive economic growth for the nation
Elizabeth Truss, environment secretary
“We have been manufacturing from this site for over 50 years and continue our commitment to investing and growing the site which manufactures some of the UK’s favourite family brands – Uncle Ben’s and Dolmio,” said Michael Ryan, regional president of Mars Food, Western Europe & Russia.
Mars said the new production line, which will be completed early in 2017, would help meet the demand for Uncle Ben’s Ready to Heat rice across the UK market.
“This significant investment by Mars is a real vote of confidence in Britain as a place to do business, creating jobs locally and helping drive economic growth for the nation,” said UK environment secretary Elizabeth Truss.
The company has also opened a new £6 million state-of-the-art office which includes a ‘living green roof’, gymnasium and canteen.
The facility has also been designed to reduce energy and water use, while managing waste as sustainably as possible, according to Mars Food.
