Ineos expands chemical manufacturing plant in Hull

Chemicals manufacturer Ineos has announced plans to expand its ethyl acetate manufacturing facility in Saltend, Hull.
Following a ‘multi-million pound’ investment, the plant will have the capacity to produce 100,000 additional tonnes of ethyl acetate per year, which will be available by the end of next year, Ineos said.
Our Hull plant is at capacity and this extra investment will enable us to significantly increase production that we will sell all over Europe and across the world
Jim Ratcliffe, Ineos chairman
Ineos chairman Jim Ratcliffe said: “We believe in British manufacturing and will support it wherever we can.
“Our Hull plant is at capacity and this extra investment will enable us to significantly increase production that we will sell all over Europe and across the world.”
Ethyl acetate is used in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, inks and flexible packaging.
Ineos also said the Hull plant would benefit from Ineos’ $1 billion (£760m) decision to import US shale gas to Scotland.
A pipeline linking the company’s petrochemicals plant at Grangemouth with its site in Hull means the site will be able to use ethylene produced from imported US shale gas as its main raw material, Ineos added.
