The first influx of apprentices will join the company this September, and will start their technical training at existing facilities on the campus.
They are expected to relocate once the new facility has been completed.
Duncan Hawthorne, Horizon’s chief executive officer, said: “I’m delighted to announce this landmark funding provision to Grŵp Llandrillo Menai. The construction of this state of the art facility in Llangefni will be central to our training provision for local people, giving them the world class skills that we’ll need.”
He also said the new engineering centre is the first of many initiatives the company plans to announce.
Minister for skills and science Julie James said: “I welcome Horizon’s investment in the new engineering centre at Coleg Menai, and look forward to the College working closely with Horizon to develop facilities capable of delivering high quality training to local people on Anglesey.”
Much of the training will enable young people across Wales to prepare for a career with Horizon at the Wylfa Newydd new nucelar build site on Anglesey, said the Nuclear Industry Association.
The announcement follows a pledge by the Welsh government to invest £5 million in an ‘Engineering Centre of Excellence’ on the campus.
