YSI Life Sciences’ biochemistry analysers have found an important role in several industries throughout the USA and the wider world, says the company.
Using feedback provided directly from its USA customers, YSI has been able to evaluate how end-users view the benefits of YSI’s technology.
YSI has put together findings related to the instruments’ reliability, accuracy, maintenance and running costs, and speed and sample preparation time, in order to inform potential customers about the benefits of the technology being employed.
For more than 20 years a variety of food and beverage related companies have applied YSI biosensor technology to aspects of their processing and production, from raw material assessment to product quality control and waste management.
One common application of the analyser in these industries has been in-process testing. The capability of being able to verify product quality, rapidly and accurately, by sampling directly from the production vessel, and hence quickly adjusting a crucial ingredient concentration, such as sucrose, can produce immediate savings, says YSI.
One cereal manufacturer that was interested in sucrose content identified the ability to correct problems in processing as the major benefit for it using a YSI analyser. The company also commented on how quickly the instrument paid for itself, especially with large volume runs.
Another, very different food company, manufacturing French fries, said it had benefited from the YSI analyser in relation to both raw material and in-process testing. The maturity of potatoes were assessed in storage by analysing sucrose and dextrose, while the broth in which the potatoes were fried was measured for dextrose alone.
In addition, one wine manufacturer that had previously used an enzyme kit to measure lactate and dextrose during production found the analyser ‘indispensible’ for quality control and accuracy, yet inexpensive to operate.
