An increased emphasis on productivity, waste reduction and sustainability among process industries is driving the increase in pigging.
HPS Product Recovery Solutions, a specialist in process pigging, has seen its technology become increasingly popular among companies that process liquids; whether they be based in food and beverage production or the manufacturing of everything from paint to cosmetics.
Pigging recovers nearly all liquid in pipes that would otherwise go to waste, says the company, resulting in increased yields, quicker changeovers, savings in water and cleaning products, reduced risk of contamination, and better sustainability.
Pigging works by propelling a special projectile (the ‘pig’) through pipes. The pig has a diameter slightly larger than the pipe and transfers residual liquid safely to its destination, rather than leaving it to be flushed away.
HPS adds that its detectable, flexible, one-piece pig – achieving recovery rates of up to 99.5% – is available in FDA-approved materials.
