Outgoing EngineeringUK chief executive a ‘hard act to follow’
24 Feb 2017
Paul Jackson, chief executive of industry body EngineeringUK, has decided to step down, following eight years in the role.
Jackson (pictured), who will leave this summer, has been described as a “hard act to follow” by EngineeringUK chairman Malcolm Brinded.
“During Paul's tenure, we have built the Big Bang and Tomorrow's Engineers programmes to reach almost half a million children per year, and are seeing encouraging signs of increased enthusiasm and choice of STEM subjects and engineering by young people,” Brinded said.
A report published by the trade body last week revealed engineering and technology degrees had increased by 9%, while England had seen the highest number of engineering related apprenticeship starts for 10 years.
"This has only been possible by the support of industry and the many charities, schools, colleges and universities who have been willing to pool their resources, as well as close cooperation with the Royal Academy of Engineering and all the professional engineering institutions," Brinded said.
Jackson's replacement will be announced in due course.
