While the Metrohm ICON continuous colorimetric analyser operates by the same principle as many standard bench test kits, the instrument is different in that it analyses continuously and automatically and requires no manual intervention once up and running.
The ICON is configurable for many standard and non-standard parameters and can sample up to two effluent streams, says Metrohm.
At a time when wastewater needs to be reduced and contaminants minimised, ever tighter consent levels on effluent mean contaminant levels edge towards unacceptable levels.
This makes life much more difficult for effluent plant operators where contaminant levels are difficult to remove by conventional treatment processes.
Regular spot sampling is time consuming, requires relatively expensive test kits, and often gives less than acceptable levels of accuracy. Often contamination events are missed and effluent consents can be breached.
The ICON boasts improved accuracy, says the company, due to its differential absorbance method which takes into account turbidity and colour in the sample which can affect bench results.
