Resilience of Pumps and Pumping Systems is the theme for this year’s Pump Centre Exhibition and Conference at the Telford International Centre on 3 May.
Across the manufacturing world, the reliability of assets has long been acknowledged with the development of predictive maintenance techniques driving a dynamic planned intervention approach for improved productivity and performance.
Reliability also underpins resilience which is one of the key targeted OfWat regulatory drivers for the water industry from 2020. Therefore, the implementation and facilitation of predictive maintenance through the design, supply, monitoring and servicing of pumps and pumping systems, together with the intelligent management of data, needs to set the partnering strategies between the supplier and user.
Resilience can be influenced at all stages from design through to operation, and in some way by all companies throughout the industry supply chain, and The Pump Centre event is the ideal platform to showcase this cross-industry issue.
There’s never been a better time to attend one of the UK’s leading and largest event for the pumping industry at Telford’s International Centre on Thursday 3 May 2018.
Organised by The Pump Centre and featuring more than 100 of the water industry’s major manufacturers and suppliers, the event will attract visitors from the entire supply chain and there will be representatives from most of the organisation’s members.
In 2017 there were more than 1,100 attendees at this free to access event which offers a unique combination of networking, business opportunities, knowledge sharing and skills development all under one roof and in the space of a single day.
The Pump Centre Conference is a great chance for people to meet a lot of key industry contacts, learn about the latest innovations and gain access to quality training sessions.
With a total of up to 25 technical sessions on hand – five in the main hall and as many as 20 breakouts – the day provides an excellent return on investment that cost-conscious employers demand today when they allow their employees to attend events.
Everything, is provided access-all-areas and at no additional charge – and that includes even the parking, lunch and refreshments.
“All delegates need to do is travel to the venue – all the rest is provided!” says The Pump Centre’s manager John Howarth.
With an impressive range of speakers and sessions, there will be ample time to deal with a wide range of issues affecting everyone across the sector, including end users, suppliers and manufacturers.
The technical sessions are expected to cover topics such as:
- Pump blockages and reliability
- Condition monitoring
- Multiple pump operation
- Pump station data capture
- Optimising sump design
- Pump and impeller design
- System health checks
- Innovation and new technology
The event is designed so that attendees can choose their own agendas and is ideal for both those who are new to the industry and the more experienced members of the team.
The exhibitor list reveals an abundance of respected names within the water industry, with a significant number also sponsoring the event.
Attendees are expected from all the major UK WASC’s (Water and Sewerage Companies) including the likes of Dwr Cymru, Severn Trent and United Utilities, contractors such as MWH and Black & Veatch, plus the major pump manufacturers in the water sector including Sulzer, Xylem and Grundfos.
There will also be plenty of representation from those responsible for ancillary kit that is nevertheless vital in the context of pumping – such as valves, screens, drives, control panels etc.
The Pump Centre Conference & Exhibition might be a must-attend for those who want to maintain their sector knowledge and effectiveness but it famously combines the serious business with hospitality.
On Wednesday 2 May, the night before the event, the organisation plays host to the conference dinner which boasts well over 400 guests.
Highlight of the evening is the annual Young Engineer award, an opportunity to flag up new talent. It also demonstrates the continued relevance of The Pump Centre to an industry that is not only facing challenges but, through the organisation’s role and activities, striving to find innovative approaches that allow it to develop.
With an impressive range of speakers and sessions, there will be ample time to deal with a wide range of issues affecting everyone across the sector, including end users, suppliers and manufacturers.
Howarth adds: “The Pump Centre Conference & Exhibition is a fantastic event. Delegates can get so much out of the day. Under one roof they can see and learn about new products, they can find out about the industry, they can update their knowledge at the technical sessions and they can network in a relaxed environment with key contacts.
“We would love to see you there, so why not go to our website and register?”

About The Pump Centre
For almost 25 years The Pump Centre has played a key role in bringing together key people and companies at the heart of the supply chain, predominantly but not exclusively based around the water industry.
Its original objective was to promote technology transfer and this is a key reason as to its continuing relevance. It aims to keep abreast of the changes that members need to be aware of and adapt to, in order to be successful in their businesses.
Check out its membership list of about 160 companies and you will find pump users including the main water utilities, UK manufacturers, component and service suppliers, plus consultants and contractors.
It offers a wide range of engineering training courses at locations across the country with substantial discounts for members.
It also runs two major collaborative water industry projects: WIMES (Water Industry Mechanical and Electrical Specifications) and WIMWG (Water Industry Maintenance Working Group).
In addition to its main event, The Pump Centre Conference & Exhibition in Telford, the organisation hosts other smaller conferences and awareness days to keep members up to speed on latest technical developments.
