Wood plc has announced the creation of a new fund to invest in decommissioning technology developed by small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs).
The Wood Nuclear Innovation Fund aims to encourage approaches that reduce human intervention while increasing productivity and the optimisation of waste treatment, packaging and routing.
“Successful investment in technology by the fund will enable SMEs to grow and help us to achieve our objective of becoming the most sought after and trusted provider of waste management and decommissioning solutions,” commented Bob MacDonald, CEO of Wood’s Specialist Technical Solutions.
SME proposals will be assessed by the company’s technical experts with assistance from its commercial, operations and business development teams, he said.
MacDonald added: “The UK government and Nuclear Decommissioning Authority wants industry to deliver safer, cheaper and faster decommissioning and to meet this challenge it will be necessary to deploy new or existing technologies in ingenious and innovative ways.”
