Strike action hits Norway’s oilfields
10 Jul 2018
Norway’s offshore oil and gas industry has been hit by strike action following the failure of industrial negotiations.
Around 1,500 workers in two unions are likely to take part if no resolution is reached. Rig employers are represented by the Norwegian Shipowners’ Association, while the Safe and YS unions represent the striking workers.
The country’s largest oil union, Industri Energi, is not taking part in the action, having previously agreed a deal with the management association.
Norway is Western Europe's largest oil and gas producer and in 2015, crude oil and natural gas accounted for 40% of the value of all the country’s exports.
