Engineering is No 2 preference for male undergraduates says report
28 Jan 2019
Engineering is the second most popular undergraduate course among men in the UK in this academic year, according to the latest findings based on statistics from the Universities and Colleges Admissions Services.
A total of 87,000 chose to pursue a degree in the subject. Only business and administrative studies scores higher among males, says the report.
In line with previous evidence, it ranks in just thirteenth place for women undergraduates, with only 18,150 students. And given the fact that the overall female cohort is larger numerically, this represents a much smaller proportion choosing engineering.
The evidence was gathered from UCAS figures by training and education provider The Knowledge Academy and based on the body’s most recent results in January
In 2018/19, the total new undergraduate population – based on those accepted for courses – was 353,960 people.
