Deadline looms for top engineering women’s award nominations
2 Oct 2019
With just days to go before the nominations close, the annual FDM everywoman in Technology Awards are marking their 10th anniversary year with 12 categories up for grabs.
The deadline for the 2020 FDM everywoman in Technology Awards, which take place on 4 March 2020 and are free to enter, is Monday 7 October 2019.
Chief operating officer of FDM Group Sheila Flavell, remarked: “It’s incredibly exciting to celebrate the 10th anniversary of these important awards which celebrate the achievements of women in the technology sector.
“This milestone underlines the hard work and persistence of so many people in the IT industry and sets a great example for the next generation of female talent.”
In the last decade, more than 350 women in the tech industry from school students to CEO level have been recognised, with awards sponsored by a host of leading companies such as American Express, IBM and Google.
Co-founder of everywoman Maxine Benson stated: “The fast growth of this sector offers extraordinary and exciting opportunities for women and these Awards should be used as a platform to leverage the role models that are needed to attract the finest female talent of the future.”
Currently just 7% of female students in the UK take computer science A-level, while just half of girls who studied IT and tech subjects go on to a work in the field.
Further research by everywoman found that a lack of role models for young girls is a significant factor in the gender imbalance in the technology industry. Last year, women comprised 12.6% of board members in the tech sector – far below the 30% female representation achieved by FTSE 100 businesses.
Organisers said this demonstrated the role that the awards could play in promoting the tech industry as a whole and the individual achievements of women within the sector.
