Yorkshire Water’s has been named as Digital Initiative of the Year at the British Construction Industry Awards for its pioneering work in Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations (DSEAR).
Judges commended the development and implementation of its digital model, designed in collaboration with Stantec.
This is supplied with geographic and risk data for Yorkshire Water’s catchment assets in compliance with DSEAR requirements.
Principal engineer at Yorkshire Water Peter Coker, said: “Previously, a DSEAR catchment risk study was labour intensive and a region the size of Yorkshire could take decades to fully assess.
He added that the new approach had allowed Yorkshire Water to deliver more than 7,000 catchment assessments across 22,400 miles of sewer within an 18 month period, allowing the utility firm to put more focus on those assets with the highest risk.
“The BCIA award is recognition of the hard work of a team of people at Yorkshire Water and our partners Stantec who have delivered an innovative and industry-leading tool,” added Coker.
