Brewery saved from closure by its commitment to creating opportunity

A Bristol brewery company forced to close by the pandemic has been saved by the group it helped with work opportunities.
Tapestry Brewery in the city’s Totterdown area had battled against closure into the wake of the Covid lockdown but was forced this year into liquidation.
However a partnership it formed last year to boost job opportunities has provided the means to reopen the site once more.
Bristol based charity Props specialises in building links and funding places with local businesses to provide job and work opportunities for people with disabilities.
Tapestry had agreed to take part and had been giving training for charity members interested in the craft beer business when it was forced to cease operation.
But the charity stepped forward to pitch to take over the site – renamed Tapestry by Props – which includes both a brewery and a bar.
Project leader Tom Medland, who will guide the new business, said it would benefit from collboration with the city’s other breweries.
With training underway, the team plans to restart brewing next month and have three new beers planned to launch in summer.
NEWS: A Lincolnshire metal recycler has been praised for its work in support of widening employment opportunities for young people with learning disabilities.
EMR Lincoln has formed a partnership with a charity based in the county, which seeks to enable clients to find career advancement.
The Linkage Community Trust charity operates throughout Lincolnshire, operating a number of services to help youngsters’ development, including employment opportunities and job skills.
EMR Lincoln business development manager Craig Wood said supporting the organisation would also aid individuals in their quest for work.
He noted that those with learning disabilities “are often excluded from the workforce due to a lack of support along the recruitment process”.
The firm plans to aid the Trust via help from its own Young Futures Reimaged programme, providing a financial donation to fund the charity’s programme of employability sessions and offering work experience.
Linkage spokesperson, head of fundraising and communications Andrea Beer said the trust was proud that EMR Lincoln had opted to choose Linkage as the focus for its charity efforts.
