One of Ukraine’s leading energy companies is appealing for electrical equipment from the UK in order to replace infrastructure shattered by Russian shelling.
DTEK Energy said that thermal power plants operated by the firm were hit in six separate incidents during one week.
In the latest two attacks on 18 October, seven employees were injured and another killed during missile attacks, said a spokesperson.
Previously over 10-11 October, three of DTEK’s TPPs were attacked with another TPP struck on October 17 said the spokesperson.
The firm claimed that, in total, some 30 per cent of Ukraine’s energy system has been damaged as a result of shelling by the invading Russian army.
“Russia is destroying Ukraine's energy infrastructure in order to leave Europe dependent on russian energy sources. This is energy terrorism. It may result in a total destruction of the energy sector, leaving millions of people without heat and energy supply before and through the winter,” charged a DTEK spokesperson.
They added that due the shelling of critical infrastructure facilities, DTEK was currently in immediate need of various electrical equipment to restore power supply. These include mobile substation and complete transformer substations; circuit breakers of different voltage classes; power transformers and current transformers; and cable products, insulators, coupling capacitors.
The firm appealed to industrial companies willing to lend support to contact the DTEK.com website for details.
Owned by magnate Rinat Akhmetov, the Kyiv-based company is the largest private investor in the energy industry in Ukraine. Operating in the renewables and fossil fuel sectors it is a signatory to UN social responsibility projects and a key participant in the Stop Bloody Energy campaign for Western non-cooperation with Russia in the energy industry.
