Process engineering has always been a strong element of the annual show but this year, for the first time, it has its own dedicated zone. Find out more…
It’s no surprise to see CHEMUK returning to Birmingham NEC for 15-16 May. The event is one of the key dates in the chemical industry calendar. But there is an important change to the format for 2024, announces organiser UK Industry Events and that is the launch of the new Process & Chemical Engineering Show Zone.
It will, says the company, be the UK’s only event that brings process engineers from the chemical, food and beverage, pharma, oil and gas, and water and wastewater industries together to share and sample the innovation impacting their work.
The new zone will present hundreds of specialist process engineering suppliers to attending process professionals that are involved directly in the design, development, management and maintenance of operations in the processing of liquid, solid, powder and gasbased process engineering industries.
UK Industry Events MD Ian Stone explains the rationale behind the change: “The Process & Chemical Engineering Show Zone will give attendees the ability to survey the wealth of new technology and products that are available but also to be able to share that knowledge across the various vertical industries that are the application areas for process engineering.
“Process engineering is, of course, in essence chemical engineering in as much as it is the application of chemical unit operations and unit processes. So, there is an ‘esprit de corps’ among all major process engineers, often coming through a classically chemical engineering educational base.” The zone launch is complemented by a dedicated speaker programme with a suitably process engineering and chemical industry focus. It features a series of 90-minute mini conferences, hosted by key organisations within this area. These include:
- ‘Scale-Up’ challenges, towards Sustainable Production – IChemE Mini Conference
- Bioprocess Scale-Up: From Bench Top to Commercialisation – IBioIC Mini Conference
- Process Intensification Symposium: Unlocking the Potential of Process Intensification for Net Zero – Hosted by Process Intensification (PI) Group – Newcastle University Mini Conference
- Tech that will disrupt chemical manufacturing – Hosted by Innovate UK & Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council Mini Conference
Continuing with within the broad theme, the speaker programme will present several expert presentations and keynotes, including:
- IChemE Presidential Address
- Supporting your journey to Net Zero – Innovate UK KTN on behalf of Dept for Energy Security and Net Zero/DESNZ
- Is it just yet another fieldbus? Ethernet conquers instrumentation in process industry – ABB
- Process Intensification of Batch Chemistry Production – Thermal Fluid Systems
- New technologies from the solvents industry on the road to Net Zero – Solvents Industry Association
- Connecting into the UK’s innovation support ecosystem – ScotCHEM Panel Session
- Continuous membrane-based separation to improve batch extraction productivity – Zaiput
Partnering the Process & Chemical Engineering Show Zone are a number of leading trade bodies and industry associations representing the UK process engineering sector.
Among those attending are the Institute for Chemical Engineers (IChemE), the North East of England Process Industry Cluster (NEPIC), the British Valve & Actuator Association (BVAA), Chemicals Northwest, the British Pump Manufacturers Association (BPMA), UK Gasket & Sealing Association (UKGSA) and the Process Intensification Network.
The zone launch is complemented by a dedicated speaker programme with a suitably process engineering and chemical industry focus
Watch out too for the Process Engineering stand (number to be announced later on our website), which will be shared with our sister titles Laboratory News, Laboratory Talk and owner Synthesis Media’s new platform, Lab Horizons.
