Manufacturer Vetter is on course to expand storage plant capacity at its Ravensburg facility in Germany 30% by 2028.
The firm said it is investing more than €150 million in order to add 16,000 pallet spaces for cool storage in order to meet growing demand.
This will more than double the current 13,000 cool storage spaces available and increase overall spaces across all temperature requirements to 68,000.
Work has been underway to construct a 22,500 sq m building to also house sample storage for stability testing, with manual and automated visual inspection facilities, a data centre and office space.
The company says it expects to finish the building shell next year, by the end of the fourth quarter.
MD Carsten Press said the expansion was a strategic response to increasing market demand for cool chain capacity to accommodate temperature sensitive medications.
Senior vice president supply chain management Timo Usinger the new facility will be fully cooled using the latest automation and digitalisation technology, including advanced monitoring systems and fully automated storage.
