26 Nov 2004
In a move to consolidate its global production infrastructure, Merck today announced that it is to sell its production site in Pithiviers, France for an undisclosed fee.
Orgasynth, a Paris-based chemical company specialising in the production of fine chemicals and intermediates, will acquire the site. Both companies signed the sale agreement today and the transaction will close once all necessary regulatory approvals have been granted.
Under terms of the agreement, Orgasynth will take over the production site including all assets and liabilities. Of 94 employees, 77 will transfer to Orgasynth. In addition, Orgasynth will continue to produce for Merck.
As part of Merck's global production network, activities in Pithiviers are focused on the development and production of finished products, intermediates and active pharmaceutical ingredients used by several Merck businesses.
